How Do I Sell Tickets to My Event, Workshop or Webinar?
Quick answer: Create an Event Ticket product with your event title, date, times and location (a venue or an online join link), pick a ticket design and set a price. Buyers pay with EcoCash or card and automatically get a personalised ticket PDF with a QR code, plus calendar links. At the door, scan the QR code to check them in.
Key points
- Works for in-person events and online events such as Zoom and Google Meet.
- Every ticket is personal (the buyer's name) and verifiable (a QR code and unique code).
- Buyers get Add to Calendar links, so fewer people forget.
- Check-in stops the same ticket being used twice.
What kinds of events can I sell tickets for?
Anything that happens live, in a venue or online:
- Workshops and masterclasses (photography, baking, hair)
- Webinars on Zoom or Google Meet
- Conferences, seminars and business breakfasts
- Church events, youth camps and retreats
- Networking evenings and meetups
- Live cooking or fitness classes
How do I set up a ticket product?
Go to Products → Add product and choose Event Ticket. Then fill in the event details:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Event title (required) | For example "Harare Photography Workshop 2026" (up to 120 characters) |
| Event date | Leave blank for online or undated events |
| Location | A venue address, or an online join link |
| Start time / End time | Leave the start time blank for an all-day event |
| Timezone | Choose yours, such as Harare time |
| Label on the document | Optional. The default works well, or use something like "Admit One" or "VIP Pass" |
| Design | Emerald, Midnight, Silver, Gold or Platinum. Silver, Gold and Platinum add a tier badge |
| Custom background | Optional. Upload your own PDF, PNG or JPG and Sellzw prints the details on top |
Then add your name, summary, description, price and cover image, just like any product. See How do I upload and publish my first digital product?
Tip: create separate ticket products for different tiers, for example "Standard" on the Silver design and "VIP" on the Gold design.
What does the buyer receive?
As soon as payment clears, each buyer gets:
- A personalised ticket PDF with their name, the event title, date, time and location, a unique code and a QR code labelled "Scan to verify".
- An email: "Your ticket is ready", with a View My Ticket button.
- Add to Calendar links, for Google Calendar or a calendar file for Apple Calendar and Outlook. These appear when your event has a date.
- A copy in My Library, so they can find the ticket again any time.
How do I check people in at the door?
Use your phone. There's no special scanner or app needed.
- Before the event, sign in to your Sellzw account in your phone's browser.
- At the door, scan the attendee's QR code with your phone camera and open the link.
- The verification page shows the ticket status, Valid, and the holder's name.
- Tap the check-in button.
- If the same ticket is scanned again, it shows "Already checked in", so it can't be reused.
Other people who scan a ticket, such as a friend checking it's genuine, can see whether it's valid but can't check it in. Only you, the seller, can.
How do I sell tickets for an online event?
Put your Zoom, Google Meet or other join link in the Location field. Buyers see it on their ticket. The verification page only shows the location while the purchase is valid, so a refunded buyer can't keep using your link.
Tips for online events:
- Set the date, start time and timezone so buyers get calendar reminders.
- Use a join link with a waiting room or passcode so you can control who gets in.
- Send a reminder on WhatsApp the day before.
Can I limit how many tickets I sell?
Sellzw doesn't have a ticket limit setting, so manage capacity by unpublishing. When your venue is full, open the product and switch it to unpublished, or use Unpublish in your Products list. Each purchase is one ticket in one name, so anyone bringing friends should buy a ticket for each person.
What happens if someone asks for a refund?
If an order is refunded, its ticket is revoked. Scanning it shows that it's no longer valid, so it can't be used at the door. See How do refunds work on Sellzw?
Tips to sell out your event
- Launch early with an early-bird price. Show the full price as the compare-at price.
- Use a clear cover with the event name, date and venue on it.
- Answer the key questions in the description: what attendees will learn or get, who it's for, what to bring, and whether refreshments are included.
- Share the link everywhere: WhatsApp status, groups, Facebook events and TikTok.
- Post a countdown on your status in the final week.
