What Is a Tracked Link, and How Do I Make One for Each Ad or Post?

Quick answer: A tracked link is your normal Sellzw link with UTM tags added, such as ?utm_source=whatsapp&utm_campaign=launch_week. When someone buys through it, Sellzw saves the source and campaign on the order and shows it under Sales by source on your dashboard. Build one in Marketing pixels → Create a tracked link in under a minute.

Key points

  • Tracked links show which post, platform or ad made each sale.
  • They go to the same page as your normal link. Only the tags are added.
  • Build them in Sellzw. No technical skills needed.
  • Use a different link for each place you share.

What is a tracked link?

It's your normal link with a label on the end that says where it was shared.

Normal product link: sellzw.com/rudos-kitchen/cake-business-guide

Tracked link for a Facebook post during launch week: sellzw.com/rudos-kitchen/cake-business-guide?utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=launch_week

Both open the same page. But when someone buys through the second one, Sellzw records facebook · launch_week on the order.

What do the UTM tags mean?

Tag Question it answers Examples
utm_source Where was it shared? whatsapp, facebook, instagram, tiktok, email
utm_campaign Which push was it part of? launch_week, december_sale, webinar_promo
utm_medium (optional) What kind of placement? status, post, story, paid, email
utm_content (optional) Which version? video_a, blue_banner, testimonial_post

You don't have to type any of these. Sellzw's builder does it for you.

How do I build a tracked link on Sellzw?

  1. Open Marketing pixels (under Grow in your dashboard menu).
  2. In Create a tracked link, answer "Where should it go?": My store home page or one of your published products.
  3. Answer "Where will you share it?": tap Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, YouTube, X (Twitter), Email, or Other to type your own (such as flyer or radio).
  4. Add a Campaign name (optional), for example launch_week.
  5. (Optional) Tap Advanced options to add a Medium and Content label.
  6. Tap Copy link and paste it where you're sharing.

Which tracked links should I make?

Make one link for each place you share, and name them consistently. Example for launching a baking guide:

Where you'll share it Source Campaign Content (optional)
WhatsApp status whatsapp cake_launch status
WhatsApp groups whatsapp cake_launch groups
Facebook Page post facebook cake_launch post
Facebook ad facebook cake_launch ad_video_a
Instagram bio instagram cake_launch bio
TikTok bio tiktok cake_launch bio

Naming tips:

  • Use lowercase and underscores: cake_launch, not Cake Launch!!
  • Keep the same campaign name across platforms for one push, so you can compare them.
  • Keep a simple list of the links you've made, in a note or spreadsheet.

How does Sellzw track the sale?

The tags travel with the visitor into checkout and are saved on the order.

  • If the visitor taps your tracked product link and buys, the source and campaign are saved on that order. This works even for visitors who reject optional cookies, because the tags go straight into the checkout link.
  • If the visitor browses around your store first, Sellzw can remember the tags for the rest of their visit, but only if they've allowed attribution cookies in the cookie banner.
  • Sales without tags appear as Organic / direct.

Tip: link straight to a product rather than your store home. The buyer is one tap from checkout and the tracking is most reliable.

Where do I see the results?

On your dashboard, in Sales by source. Each row shows the source and campaign, for example whatsapp · cake_launch, with your revenue, the number sold, and its share of your sales for the date range you pick (last 7, 30 or 90 days, or all time). The source and campaign also appear on each order in your Orders export. More in How do I see which posts and ads are bringing in sales?

Can I add tags to a landing page link?

Yes, by hand. The builder makes links to your store and products. For a landing page, add the tags yourself, for example: sellzw.com/rudos-kitchen/p/free-recipes?utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=cake_launch

Frequently asked questions

What is a UTM tag?

A UTM tag is a label added to the end of a link, such as ?utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=launch_week. It doesn't change where the link goes. It tells Sellzw where the visitor came from, so the sale can be credited to that source.

Where do I build a tracked link on Sellzw?

Go to Marketing pixels in your dashboard menu. Under "Create a tracked link", choose your store or a product, pick where you'll share it, optionally add a campaign name, and tap Copy link.

Where do I see sales from my tracked links?

On your dashboard, in the "Sales by source" section. Each source and campaign shows its revenue, units sold and share of your sales for the selected date range.

Do tracked links need pixels or cookies?

No pixel is needed. The tags travel with the link into checkout and are saved on the order. Visitors who allow attribution cookies are also remembered while they browse your store before buying.
